Societies and communities can approach external companies for sponsorship of events or of the group as a whole. This sponsorship can come in the form of funding, as materials (e.g. branded t-shirts), or services (e.g. use of venue).

One of our tips to make external sponsorship successful is to make sure it is explicit what the sponsor gets in return. Many companies will seek to advertise to students in exchange for sponsorship. If you need ideas on what you can offer a sponsor, get in touch with the Union.

Make sure you aren't vague in your discussion with the potential sponsor as this may lead to assumptions which may different from what you are expecting. Do not promise anything you aren't certain you can provide, and do not accept a sponsorship amount until approved by the Union.

All sponsorship is subject to 20% VAT. Make this clear to the external sponsor from the outset.

All sponsorship must be approved by the Union to make sure it is in line with UK charity law. Do not enter into a contract without consulting us first.
