Required roles
Each society must have a President, Secretary and Treasurer in order to be affiliated with the Students' Union. You can find a description of these roles in the drop down boxes below.
You must let the societies coordinator know of any changes to your committee. New individuals joining the committee must complete the mandatory student leadership training to be official members of the committee and insured.
President

Oversee all areas of the running and coordinating of the society

Act as the chair of all meetings

Ensure the health and safety of members at all times

Liaise with committee members to ensure all necessary arrangements for activities are made

Be a signatory for the society budget

Make sure that your society is communicating effectively with the Activities Team and all members
-
Act as the society’s first representative to all external bodies. Remember you are representing Goldsmiths SU, so if in doubt contact the Engagement Team (especially when the media is involved!)
Secretary

Arrange all meetings of the society and keep minutes of formal meetings

Be responsible for general administration

Deal with internal communications to members

Collect all society or community correspondence and ensure it is acted upon

Ensure that all members are informed of all relevant information

Maintain up-to-date records of the society membership, including contact details for members. The Secretary should also ensure that the Activities Team holds details of members and must follow data protection laws

Arrange fixtures and events, booking facilities, equipment, transport etc.
Treasurer

Be responsible for all of the society money

Be a signatory for the budget

Collect all monies received from society activities, and ensure that they are paid into the society account with the relevant documentation

Ensure that any funding applications are completed and handed into the Activities Team at the right time

Ensure all necessary expenditure is paid in good time
-
Keep a record of all financial transactions for the society so that committee members can be informed of the society’s financial situation
Optional roles

Liberation reps
These roles are elected roles and are there to represent students in your group from different liberation groups as well as feeding into how we do things in the Students' Union.
