About Us.
Welcome to the Goldsmiths Post Graduate Researcher(PGR) Debating Society! The Postgraduate Researcher (PGR) Debating Society believes that every voice matters. We exist to provide an accessible space where everyone can engage in conversation, discussion, and debate and; enjoy the social aspects of such activities. We believe that conversation, discussion, and debate; are fantastic opportunities for skills development, a brilliant way to engage in constructive discussion on topical issues, and; above all a lot of fun!
Society Goals
As a society, our general aims are to create an apolitical, non-adversarial space within the university for student-led discussions of ideas and topical issues of importance to our members
Our approach is to debate themes in the round, play devil's advocate and flip the script. All are beneficial for enhancing our critical thinking skills. To allow members to develop their confidence and communication skills through conversation, discussion and debate. To offer a space where post-graduates can socialise, network, share ideas and be inspired by each other.
Society Activities
Each month members choose a topic and then we run a poll to decide our next topic. There is also room to discuss conundrums and puzzles arising from our research. General socialising and chatting are also encouraged. Our meet-ups are open to all Goldsmiths postgraduate researchers(PGR) students. Throughout the year, we will also plan visits to lectures, panels, and talks. ;We will also seek to; collaborate with other Goldsmith's student societies when the opportunities arises.
