For trans joy, community and justice!
Hi all, I’m Daria (they/them) and I'm running to be your Trans and Non-Binary Students Officer! I'm doing my masters in Applied Anthropology and I'm a passionate student activist with loads of experience.
My experience:
I did my undergraduate degree at the infamously transphobic UCL and I was at the forefront of student resistance to the university’s withdrawal from Stonewall. The fight for trans+ rights at UK universities continues and I have the necessary advocacy and organisational skills to help the trans and non-binary community thrive at Goldsmiths.
-
I co-organised multiple trans rights protests and a meeting with the Provost at UCL as a Campaigns Officer for the UCL Student’s LGBTQ+ Network.
-
I organised multiple community engagement events such as film screenings, poetry workshops etc.
-
I wrote my dissertation about the experiences of trans+ students in the neoliberal HE system in the UK, meaning a great familiarity with the obstacles that trans and non-binary students face.
My priorities:
-
Engagement: I will deliver a variety of regular social events, including workshops with local queer and trans artists and makers to foster a thriving trans+ community and spaces of trans+ joy.
-
Community self-help: I will facilitate events such as gender-affirming clothes exchange and deed poll drop-in sessions to allow for community resource sharing and mutual aid so that we can uplift and empower each other.
-
Safe activism: I will liaise with protester support organisations (such as Green & Black Cross) to deliver training and tips to ensure the safety and comfort of trans+ folks engaged in all forms of activism. We keep us safe!
-
Institutional Accountability: I will listen closely to the struggles that trans+ students at Goldsmiths face when dealing with university administration, staff and spaces, advocate for changes and hold the institution accountable for their implementation.
-
Intersectional Solidarity: I will work closely with other Liberation Officers to ensure that no trans+ voices are left unheard and that trans+ perspectives are included in the activities and campaigns delivered by the SU.
Thanks!
