Candidate for the position of Campaigns and Activities Officer

LUCA VENERUS

Luca Venerus
Candidate for Campaigns and
Activities Officer

Who I am:

My pronouns are he/him,
I am a third year BMus music student at Goldsmiths University
and current the Photography Society president committee since
2019/2020.
I am also a freelance photographer and a fine artist with a
portraiture and urban approach, a curator, a sound and music
composer and a performer with years of experience in the art
and music scene.

What I’ve achieved:

As president committee for the Photography Society, I formed a
solid student team where I designed and curate the exhibitions
called “Out of Place” and “Golden Ephemeral” winning the SU
awards as “Best Society Event of the Year” in 2019/ 2020 and
“Best Society Leader” in 2021/2022.
I also coordinated the curation of a large fanzine project during
the lockdown called “Connections” launched in Jul 2021.

While studying at Goldsmiths as mature student and freelance
photographer during sports, fashion, and live music events,
I have been involved in many important projects, starting from
the Gold Reel Society in 2021, the musical theatre and the
extended MA design practice degree show, the Creative Writing
and Poetry Society Publications, the Eko and Smiths Magazine,
the Visual Culture Society Exhibition, the EMS studio and the NX
Records.
I am continuing to coordinate the Photography Society team in
the current 2022/2023 academic year organising activities and
workshops, and still planning for more community collaborations
in this spring term.

My priorities

If elected, my priorities for the Campaign and Activities Officer
role are to coordinate and stand for all student’s needs and
proposals in their own diversities, supporting the meaning of
each campaign, and the whole community at Goldsmiths
University.
I am proud to present my concrete participation within the
Student Union introducing here my previous position as Part
Time Societies Officer in 2021, which I consider the ideal
foundational experience for the full-time Campaigns and
Activities Officer.

“Inclusion is beyond competitivity”.

We should start to work towards a new formula of participation
for all people creating the terrain for unique and collaborative
opportunities, with practical short-term solutions to rebuild the
trust in ourselves and providing space and tools for the needs of
an inclusive and not exclusive kind of communication.

My Main Points:

We can support a community of thinkers, creators, and
activists in a more sustainable and accessible environment
through daily conversations, debates, and participations for
students of all backgrounds.
Focusing on training and transferable skills is the key to
deal with practical problems such as founding, fully inclusion
and accessibility in the form of workshops, group talks and
dedicated vocational and multidisciplinary activities.
Raising awareness of our supportive programs to the
University departments, where the reality is often separated from
the collaborative approach that we offer at the Student Union.
Moreover, as activists we learn how to embrace the authentic
experience for future organizational skills in the outside world.
Constantly adapting the vision and the form of activities, I
will take my proven experience I gain within the Student Union to
fil the gaps between the students and the non-academic outside
world, where students ideas and voices are often ignored and
left behind.
I am proud to be part of the Student Union, and I cannot wait to
dedicate my experience on rethinking the best ways to be
together as dedicated and supportive humans.
