Hi! I'm Isabelle, and as a candidate for Campaigns and Activities Officer, I pledge to make engaging with your student community accessible and achievable!
I have been heavily involved with the student community during my time at Goldsmiths, having been a course representative, Department Student Coordinator, and now School Student Coordinator. I have also engaged in various societies, as the president of the A Cappella Society as well as serving as the Disability Representative for the Musical Theatre Society. In addition to this, I helped pioneer and steer the Brave Space Collective in its early stages, a campaign dedicated to fixing the complaints system within higher education.
Alongside these positions, I have spent this past academic year working as an Advice Assistant at the Students Union, giving me a greater insight into the struggles that students have been facing this year.
Throughout this, I have come to learn just how important a sense of community is to our students, and I want to help strengthen this as Campaigns and Activities Officer.
If elected, I will focus my work on the following areas:
Clubs and Societies
- I want to bridge the gap between extracurricular activities and university life, allowing student groups access to spaces on campus and equipment from the university, rather than having to rely solely on the support of the Students Union.
- Clubs and societies should also be able to work together with relevant departments, enabling them to collaborate on events, raising student engagement.
- I believe that clubs and societies also deserve more recognition and promotion within the University, and I want to work with the heads of departments as well as the School Hubs to integrate student groups into their departmental newsletters, noticeboards and other methods for disseminating information.
Student Campaigns
- It is also important to me that we make campaigning accessible and achievable for students.
- I hope to set up training sessions and workshops to teach students the basics of campaigning, such as how to recruit and organize, how to get your message out, and knowing your rights.
- The Liberation Networks will also be key to this, as I would like to work with the Liberation Officers to deliver these workshops to their groups, as well as working to create a network for student activists.
Events and Activities
- I intend to work with the Students Union to create more accessible social events for our student body. A range of exciting and fun activities are offered to us, but I am aware of how certain events or activities may feel alienating, and I will combat this by investigating the needs and wants of our students, and creating events tailored to these needs.
Having been so involved in student life during my studies, I know how difficult it can be to have your voice heard. If elected, I promise to fight for accessibility and ease in all student spaces.
