What is a Liberation Officer?

There are three different Part Time Officer roles in this election, and six roles overall, each officer will play a key role in organising events on campus and representing their community both within the Students Union and College. 

This is a voluntary unpaid role within the SU so the expectations of the role are not exhaustive!

What are the roles?

Disabled Students’ Officer

Being a student with a disability can mean having either, or both, a physical or a hidden disability. We are looking for someone who self-defines into this group to lead this community and become Disabled Students’ Officer. This role may involve but is not limited to;

Representing disabled students (both physical and hidden disabilities) across campus.

To support a community of disabled students to create campaigns, events and push for policy change together.

To highlight issues relevant to disabled students such as accessibility and mental health provision.

To contribute to Disability History & Awareness days and months planning and events.

To work with the Full-Time Welfare and Diversity Officer on issues relating to disabled students.

To work with the Full-Time Welfare and Liberation Officer on issues relating to BME Students.

Women’s Officer

We are looking for students who self-define as women to run for Women’s Officer. This role may involve but is not limited to;

Representing women across campus.

To support a community of women to create campaigns, events and push for policy change together.

To highlight issues relating to experiences of women such as the gender pay gap and anti sexual violence campaigning.

To contribute to International Women’s Day alongside other awareness day planning and events.

To be a member of the Part-Time officer team.

To work with the Full-Time Welfare and Liberation Officer on issues relating to BME Students.

LGBTQ+ Officer

LGBTQ+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Trans, Queer (or Questioning) and others. We are looking for someone who self-defines into this group to lead this community and become LGBTQ+ Officer. This role may involve but is not limited to;

Representing LGBTQ+ students across campus.

To support a community of LGBTQ+ students who can create campaigns, events and push for policy change together.

To highlight issues relevant to LGBTQ+ students such as human rights inequalities and hate crime reporting.

To contribute to LGBT+ History month and a variety of awareness days events.

To be a member of the Part-Time officer team.

To work with the Full-Time Welfare and Diversity Officer on issues relating to LGBTQ+.
