What will you find in this handbook?
We know that going to university is a journey in itself. You may have come from across the UK or the world to Goldsmiths for the student experience. Our campus in the heart of Southeast London is home to a diverse and exciting community, with lots to explore, learn and immerse yourself in.
However, studying in London can present challenges that can make this journey harder. London is a bustling and exciting city, but can also be overwhelming and demanding. In addition to high costs of living, the marketisation of housing, education and other intersections of the political, social and economic, can make it difficult to balance your academic priorities with all that the city is asking for.
Being aware of your rights can help protect you from exploitation, discrimination, and abuse. For example, understanding tenancy rights can help prevent landlords from taking advantage of students, such as charging you excessive rent or withholding deposits unfairly. It can also help you assert yourself and make informed decisions when faced with difficult situations, such as when issues arise relating to academic performance, student experience, wellbeing, and to ensure you receive fair treatment.
We have compiled some essential information you may need to know to ensure a safe and enriching time. We hope that this handbook will serve as a useful resource throughout your time at Goldsmiths.
